“The Cross is Still So Amazing”
Text: John 12: 32-33
Scripture Reading: John 12: 27-36; Romans 5:6-8
Introduction: Today is a good day to turn our hearts to the cross of Jesus Christ for its message to us.
I. The cross of Jesus Christ is revealing.
A. The cross reveals God’s concern for sinful people.
B. The cross reveals the awfulness of sin.
C. The cross reveals God’s love for sinners!
II. The cross of Jesus Christ is sacrificial, saving, and atoning (Matt. 20:28; Luke 19:10).
A. The death of Jesus Christ was predicted (Rev. 13:8; 1 Peter 1:18-20).
B. The death of Jesus Christ was shameful (John 19:23-24; Heb.12:2).
C. The death of Jesus Christ was voluntary (John 10:17-18).
D. The death of Jesus Christ was substitutionary (1Peter2:24).
III. The cross of Jesus Christ is offensive (1 Cor. 1:23; Phil. 3:18-19).
A. The cross is a stumbling block to some!
B. The cross of Jesus Christ proclaims liberty (Gal. 5:1).
C. The cross offers grace (Eph. 2:8-9).
WHY IS THE CROSS SO OFFENSIVE?
1. The cross is the power of God!
2. The cross is the wisdom of God!
IV. The cross of Jesus Christ is triumphant. (The Reasons)
1. Triumphs over the law (Col. 2:14).
2. Triumphs over sin (Heb. 9:26).
3. Triumphs over death (Heb 2:14-15).
4. Triumphs over the evil one (John 3:8; Rev. 12:10-12).
5. Triumphs over all (Col. 2:15).
V. The cross of Jesus Christ is primary.
A. The cross of Jesus Christ was primary in His life (Luke 9:51).
B. The cross of Jesus Christ is primary in becoming a believer (John 3:16).
C. The cross of Jesus Christ is primary in glorifying God (Gal. 6:14).
