A Faithful Disciple (The Parable of the Talents)

Text: Matthew 25:21

Scripture Reading: Matthew 25: 14-30; Luke 19:11-27

Introduction: Reading the parable of the talents you will find that they are similar. They both emphasize faithfulness as a quality of discipleship.

In a similar way, Jesus is going away-as he did at the ascension. He will come again, at which time those who oppose him (the citizens) and those who have been his disciples (his servants) will receive judgment and reward according to merit.

I. The Interpretation.

      1. The citizens who hated the nobleman.

      2. The servants.

         1 Corinthians 4:1; 1 Peter 4:10

II. The Accounting.

      1. Receiving the same commendations.

      2. One servant sought to justify his disobedience.

What message does the Lord Jesus have for you today?

If you are willing to repent and yield your life to him, he will forgive you, redeem you, and help you to be a good and faithful servant.
