“A Disciple and Jesus Christ our Example”

I

Text: 2 Corinthians 8:9

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 8: 1-15

Introduction:  Jesus Christ is our example. Peter tells us in 1 Peter 2:21, “Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps.

I.     Paul reminded the Corinthians of the stewardship of Christ

      (2 Corinthians 8:9-10).

                         - He told them of the riches of Christ before he came to earth

                         (John 18:37; John 14:28).

                         - He told them that Jesus Christ become poor by coming to earth

                         (Luke 9:58).

                        - He told them why he made the sacrifice (v.9).

                        - 2 Corinthians 5:21

II.  Paul gave the Corinthians an analysis of their stewardship.

                        - He let them know their stewardship was far below par.

                       - Faithful people and Unfaithful people.

                         - I will praise the Lord (v.19).

III.   Paul used the churches of Macedonia as an example of some churches that followed the    pattern of Jesus Christ in stewardship.

  1. These churches gave under very unfavorable circumstances.
  2. They gave voluntarily.
  3. They first gave themselves.

Jesus gave His best, His all. As His disciple, He expects you to do your best. He expects our church to do its best!
