“Why Does the Christian Church Place Emphasis on Repentance?”

Text: Matthew 3:2

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 3:1-12

Introduction:   It is interesting to note the tremendous emphasis that is placed on repentance in the New Testament.  The Christian Church today must issue a call to repentance.

I. John the Baptist preached repentance.

     -

     -

II. Jesus emphasized repentance.

     A. Jesus began His ministry emphasizing the imperative need of repentance. (Mark 1:15)

     B. Our Lord concluded His ministry by emphasizing repentance. (Luke 24:47)

III. The apostle Peter emphasized repentance on the day of Pentecost. (Acts 2:38)

IV. The apostle Paul preached repentance (Acts 17:30-31)

V. Jesus encouraged the churches of Asia Minor to repent. (Revelation 2-3)
